Public Art: Metrotech Double Take and Fort Greene Birdhouses

Metrotech Hooded Man
Art like nothing else can brighten your day. Those of us along the Flatbush Riviera are lucky enough to live near some catchy public art. Below are two particularly eye-widening installations, Metrotech’s Double Take and Fort Greene’s Birdhouses. Double Take was presented by NYU Poly and ran from November 2009 – September 10, 2010 — and I must say I’ll really miss the pieces. They were full of surprises everything from a bent street lamp, chained fences and a hooded man that looks so real — only his stillness gives him away. The bird houses are on Myrtle Avenue — so the other side of the Flatbush Riviera, and were an unexpected surprise, more details on the artists can be found on the myrtle avenue bird town. It might be too late to catch Double Take but if you find yourself on Myrtle give the bird houses a heads up.
